Lucy takes inspiration for her work from her own Irish indigenous heritage as well as ancient cultures and existing indigenous communities from around the world. Her work incorporates natural elements from the environment from various countries worldwide as a way of honouring and celebrating the earth’s beauty. Through her work, she re births and reenergises ancient universal symbols that are familiar to us all. These symbols are re-emerging in the general psyche, as their wisdom and teachings are needed at this time.
Symbols of, Birds, Snakes, Spirals and the equal sided Cross are to name but some that re-emerge through her work. Birds and feathers represent ‘spirit’, the journey of the soul and the ability to see with a broader and balanced perspective. The ‘Spiral ‘, representing constant movement, eternity, the Sun, the Soul, the gateway to the Otherworld. The ‘Equal Sided Cross’, representing the four cardinal directions North, South, East and West. The ‘Serpent ’, a symbol of Universal life energy (death and rebirth), sheds its skin, dying from one way of being to be reborn into another, an eternal cycle of growth and evolution. The pre Christian Irish symbol the ‘Sheela na Gig’ like the serpent, also representing the regenerative feminine aspect of our psyche, Creator, Destroyer and Regenerator of life.
Lucy’s work illustrates her ongoing regard and celebration for the healing connection that is between people, their environment and the human spirit. This integral connection keeps us physically and spiritually in balance with ourselves, each other, and the world around us. Her work illustrates the immense gratitude and appreciation she feels for the natural world and spirit and shows her openness to commune with her environment.
